How to Use Claude in Chrome on Reddit Without Getting Banned

How to Use Claude in Chrome on Reddit Without Getting Banned

Reddit scares a lot of bloggers. One wrong post and a community of thousands turns on you, a moderator bans you, and your account gets flagged as a spammer.

Agentic AI tools make that fear worse, because now there is a browser extension that can click, type, and post on your behalf. If you point it at Reddit without a plan, you can get banned.

This article shows a research-first workflow, the rules to check before you touch anything, and the one step you should never automate.

Hands resting near a laptop as a blurred browser automation panel works on screen, coffee beside it, no face visible - What Claude in Chrome Actually Is

What Claude in Chrome Actually Is

Claude in Chrome is Anthropic’s browser extension. It opens in a side panel next to whatever page you’re on, and with your permission it can read pages, click buttons, type into fields, fill out forms, and move between tabs on your behalf.

Claude in Chrome can run longer tasks from the side panel, and your skills and connectors can carry over into the browser. Features and plan availability change often, so check Anthropic’s current documentation for what your plan includes.

One setting matters a lot for Reddit. Claude automatically approves actions it judges to be safe, using a safety classifier that checks each action against your request. You can switch this off and approve every action manually.

⚠️ For Reddit, switch to manual approval. You want to see every click before it happens on a platform where one wrong action affects your account standing.

Why Reddit Is Different From Every Other Platform

Reddit runs on a layered rule system, and understanding the layers keeps you safe.

Layer 1: Reddit’s Platform Rules

Reddit’s platform-level rules prohibit deceptive behavior, spam, and coordinated inauthentic activity. Accounts that post AI content without disclosure or in ways that look automated can face restrictions, so read Reddit’s current content policy.

Layer 2: Subreddit Rules

This is the binding layer. Each subreddit sets its own rules, and many ban or restrict AI-generated content, while some allow it only when labeled. Always read the rules of the specific community.

Layer 3: Self-Promotion Norms

Reddit’s reddiquette puts it plainly: it is fine to be a redditor with a website, and it is not fine to be a website with a Reddit account. The widely cited 90/10 guideline comes from this: keep most of your activity as genuine participation and only a small share self-promotional.

Moderators can ban you from their community, and Reddit admins can suspend your account site-wide for spam. Either outcome ends your research pipeline, so the rules come first in every workflow below.

The Core Principle: Claude Researches, You Write and Post

Before the workflows, lock in this operating rule.

💡 Claude in Chrome handles reading, summarizing, and drafting ideas. You write the final words and you press every post button yourself.

Three reasons this split works:

  • Compliance. Many subreddits ban AI-generated posts and comments. Human-written content based on AI research is the safer approach.

  • Culture. Redditors detect generic text fast. Your own voice, your real experience, and your specific details earn trust. Templated text destroys it.

  • Accountability. Your account carries your reputation. A tool should never take an action on it that you haven’t reviewed.

This split is the system. Now let’s build the workflow.

Step 1: Find the Right Subreddits

Start in the Chrome side panel on Reddit’s search page. Ask Claude to help you map the territory before you participate anywhere.

Example prompt:

“Search Reddit for communities where food bloggers and recipe creators discuss growing their blogs. For each subreddit you find, note the member count, how active the last week of posts looks, and whether the community seems focused on beginners or experienced bloggers. Build me a shortlist of 5 to 8 communities ranked by relevance.”

Pick three to five subreddits to focus on. Depth beats breadth here, because participation only counts when it is consistent.

Step 2: Read Every Rule Before You Do Anything Else

This step gets skipped often, and skipping it is how bans happen.

Every subreddit publishes rules in its sidebar, and many pin additional rules in a welcome post. Have Claude pull them all into one document.

Example prompt:

“Open the rules sidebar for r/Blogging. Then check the pinned posts for any additional posting guidelines. Summarize every rule that covers: self-promotion, link sharing, AI-generated content, flair requirements, and minimum account age or karma. Flag anything that would restrict a blogger sharing their own content.”

Repeat this for each subreddit on your shortlist. Save the summaries in a simple reference document.

⚠️ Read the actual rules yourself after Claude summarizes them. A summary helps you move fast. The original text is what moderators enforce. Two minutes of reading protects months of work.

Step 3: Summarize Long Threads to Find Audience Questions

Long Reddit threads contain gold for content creators, and reading them manually can take an hour per thread.

Example prompt:

“Read this entire thread, including the comment replies. List every distinct question people asked, every frustration they expressed, and every piece of advice that got strong agreement. Group the questions by theme and tell me which themes came up most often.”

Run this on the top threads in each of your subreddits. You now have a map of what your audience struggles with, in their own words.

💡 Save the exact phrases people use. Those phrases become your headlines and your SEO keywords, because they match how your readers actually search.

Step 4: Turn Questions Into Blog Post Ideas

Now compress the research into a content plan.

Example prompt:

“Based on the questions and pain points you collected from these threads, generate 15 blog post ideas for my blog about monetizing a food blog. For each idea, include: the Reddit question that inspired it, a working title, and the specific outcome the reader gets from the post.”

Each idea comes pre-validated. Real people asked the question in public, which means real people will search for the answer. That beats guessing at keywords every time.

Write the posts yourself, in your voice, with your examples. The research came from Reddit, and the article is yours.

Step 5: Draft Comments, Then Rewrite Them in Your Own Words

Participation is the price of admission on Reddit. Before you ever share a link, spend weeks answering questions and being genuinely useful.

Claude can draft a starting point. You rewrite it completely.

Example prompt:

“Read this post where someone asks how to get their first 1,000 blog visitors. Draft three key points I could make in a helpful reply, based on what the person specifically asked. Keep it short and practical. I will rewrite this in my own words before posting.”

Then do the rewrite. Add a detail from your own experience. Cut anything that sounds generic. Change the sentence rhythm until it reads like you.

⚠️ Never let Claude post a comment directly. Pretending AI content is human-authored can trigger authenticity violations under Reddit’s policies, and communities with AI bans will remove it. You type it, you post it.

Step 6: Check Self-Promotion Rules Before Sharing Any Link

You’ve participated for a few weeks. You wrote a blog post that directly answers a question your subreddit keeps asking. Now you want to share it.

Run a compliance check first.

Example prompt:

“Review the rules document we built for r/Blogging. Based on those rules, tell me: whether link sharing to my own blog is allowed, whether I need specific flair, whether there’s a required ratio of participation to promotion, and whether I need to disclose that it’s my own site. Then review my last 30 days of activity in my profile and estimate what percentage was self-promotional.”

If your promotional share is anywhere near 10%, hold off and keep participating.

Reddit’s own moderator guidance confirms that promotional content isn’t inherently spam, and some communities disallow it entirely, so the subreddit’s specific rule always wins.

When you do share, disclose that it’s your site. Hidden affiliation is one of the specific behaviors Reddit defines as spam.

Step 7: Track Discussions That Mention Your Topic

Example prompt:

“Search my five target subreddits for posts from the last seven days that mention email list building, blog monetization, or affiliate income. Summarize each relevant discussion in two sentences and flag any post where I could add a genuinely helpful comment based on my expertise.”

Run this weekly. It gives you a briefing that used to take an afternoon, and you show up in conversations while they are still active.

Over time this becomes a flywheel: discussions feed blog posts, blog posts answer future discussions, and your account builds a history of real contribution that makes occasional link sharing welcome.

Section banner: FAQ

FAQ

Is it against Reddit’s rules to use Claude in Chrome at all?

Reddit’s platform-level Terms of Service don’t ban AI tools or AI-assisted writing. The ToS prohibits spam, deception, and inauthentic coordinated activity. Using Claude for research and drafting while writing and posting everything yourself keeps you on the right side of that line. Individual subreddits set stricter rules, so check each one.

Which Claude plans include Claude in Chrome?

Plan availability changes often, so check Anthropic’s current documentation to see which plans include it.

Can Claude post comments for me if I review them first?

Reviewing a draft and personally rewriting it keeps your content human-authored, which matters in the many communities that restrict AI content. Posting through automation also creates account activity that looks bot-like, and Reddit targets bot behavior directly.

How long should I participate before sharing my blog link?

Some subreddits require more history through minimum karma or account age rules, which is exactly why Step 2 exists. A common approach is to participate genuinely for several weeks before sharing anything of your own.

What settings should I change before using Claude in Chrome on Reddit?

Turn off automatic action approval and approve each action manually. Auto-approval is convenient for low-stakes tasks, and Reddit is a high-stakes environment for your account reputation.

Section banner: Start With One Subreddit This Week

Start With One Subreddit This Week

You do not need to build the whole system today. Pick one subreddit where your readers already gather, run the rules prompt from Step 2, and summarize one long thread.

That single thread will hand you more validated blog post ideas than a week of guessing at keywords.

Claude in Chrome compresses the research. You bring the voice, the judgment, and the finger on the post button. That combination builds an audience on Reddit, keeps your account safe, and feeds your blog with content ideas your readers already asked for.
